Comments:
Chico DeBarge is an American R&B singer and the younger brother of the Motown family group DeBarge. “Kiss Serious” was his second release by Motown. Jeff also wrote “So Good For You” for Chico’s sister Bunny DeBarge, which was released on her 1987 “In Love” album.
Steve Diamond and I were both staff writers at Motown during the late 80’s and early 90’s. We wrote several songs together during that time. Every song we wrote needed to be recorded and neither Steve nor I wanted to produce “demos” so this track was recorded with the best production and studio singer to paint the picture. Motown liked the song as much as they did the production so this actually became the master for Chico’s project.
Steve has written songs for Reba McEntire, Charice, John Michael Montgomery, Eric Clapton, Faith Hill, Brooks & Dunn and the Backstreet Boys to name a few. Diamond’s song “Consider Me Gone” (written with Marv Green) was a #1 hit for Country Music Star Reba McEntire. “I Can Love You Like That” was recorded by Country artist John Michael Montgomery and went to #1 on the Country Charts in 1995. This was also released by the R&B Group, All for 1 who had a top 5 pop hit the same year. The song was named ASCAP, BMI and NSAI Song of the Year.
